We once had a house with a neighbor behind us named Annabelle.
A friendly fence separated our backyards.
Annabelle had two giant trees, and their shade swallowed her yard. But Annabelle wanted some sun. So one summer day, she hired workers to trim the leaves.
Then disaster struck.
I watched in horror as the workers cut down every single branch.
“They killed the trees!” I said to my wife.
Later, when Annabelle returned home to two giant slingshots in her yard, she just stood and stared for a while. There was plenty of sun now, but Annabell was not pleased. No, not at all.
“They killed the trees,” she grumbled.
And that’s how it was.
But the following spring, we were shocked. The trees sprouted hair-like twigs everywhere! Then, in the summer, leaves!
I was sick and felt like I was dying then. Perhaps that’s why I carried this event in me until now. Because only now has the lesson bloomed in me.
That when all seems lost (or seems like the end)—what SEEMS is not what IS!
